Annual Installation Dinner

On June 9, the Women’s Bar Association of Illinois (“WBAI”) began a new term of office with its 97th Annual Installation Dinner at the Hilton Chicago, located at 720 S. Michigan Avenue in Chicago. The event began with a cocktail reception at 5:00 p.m. followed by a formal dinner beginning at 6:00 p.m.

The WBAI’s Annual Installation Dinner is one of the largest annual celebrations within the Chicago legal community, with over 700 judges, attorneys, corporate supporters, and prominent leaders attending each year. Participants and speakers at this year’s Dinner included keynote speaker Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan, U.S. Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky, Illinois Supreme Court Chief Justice Thomas L. Kilbride, Illinois Supreme Court Justice Anne M. Burke, and Cook County Circuit Court Chief Judge Timothy C. Evans. Incoming WBAI President Deane Beth Brown , a partner in the Chicago law firm of Beermann Swerdlove LLP, detailed her goals for the 2011-2012 bar year and unveiled her mission for the WBAI, “Promoting Women Leaders in the Legal Community.”

At the Dinner, Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan was presented with the Myra Bradwell Award, an award bestowed upon women who have exhibited excellence in the profession and practice of law. Also at the Dinner, U.S. Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky was presented with the Women With Vision Award, given by the WBAI to women who have demonstrated visionary approaches to their professional endeavors and who have made a contribution to the well-being and empowerment of women.

The WBAI was proud to honor both Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan and U.S. Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky, and to present its new officers and directors, alongside incoming President Deane Brown, at the 97th Annual Installation Dinner.

Since 1914, the mission of the Women’s Bar Association of Illinois has been to promote and foster, advance and protect the interests and welfare of women lawyers; to encourage a spirit of friendship and mutual helpfulness among its members; to aid in the enactment of legislation for the common good and the administration of justice; and to promote and protect the interests and the rights of women.
