1985
A letter was sent to Governor Thompson by the WBAI urging the deletion of a provision in a bill which would discriminate against illegitimate children of firefighters in state operated pension programs.  In response, Thompson used the amendatory veto to delete the offending provision.  That year, the WBAI also joined with other bar groups to oppose the passage of the Marital Property Reform Act, (a form of community property) supported by the Illinois League of Women Voters, The Eagle Forum and the Commission on Uniform State Laws.
1986
The WBAI advocated the passage of the Illinois Family and Medical Leave Act which would allow an employee to take brief, unpaid leave upon birth or adoption of a child or the serious illness of a child or dependent parent.  It sent letters to all members of the Senate Executive Committee urging passage.   The WBAI went so far as having the WBAI’s Rights of Women Committee chaired by Roslyn Lieb and Barbara Greenspan meet with Senator Netsch to discuss strategy for passage of the Family & Medial Leave Act.
